Feelings About Slake Media
Greetings, sorry it’s been so long. I and my partner, Laurie Ochoa, have been busy putting to bed the first issue of Slake Los Angeles. It’s been an ambitious undertaking. We plan to publish quarterly. Our first issue is themed Still Life, as in there’s still life out there despite the many challenges that beset us. Still life in storytelling, art, photography and human connection. Slake’s first issue features 232 pages of narrative journalism, memoir, essay, fiction, poetry, art and photography. Every page of the book is handcrafted, from the painstaking care and detail of the art direction by the amazing Alex Bacon and Dan Peterka of Gama Function, to the writing, editing, art and photography. Bookstores should have issues starting by the end of the month and we will have a slate of events throughout the summer. We hope this is the beginning of a wonderful, counterintuitive experience with media. Something slower and more durable. A lasting experience. I’m going to attempt to upload a jpeg of the cover.
